Wildside Yohji Yamamoto vol. 1 (Collection)

    From The Fashion Codex

    Disclaimer: This article temporarily only focuses on Kié's contribution in the collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and various creatives, titled Wildside.

    Wildside Yohji Yamamoto vol. 1 is the first partnership capsule collection featuring various creatives such as Kié Einzelgänger and the main creator, Yohji Yamamoto.[1]

    The announcement of the “WILDSIDE YOHJI YAMAMOTO” project states;

    This is a concept project that proposes an edgy worldview unique to Yohji Yamamoto that has never been seen before, in collaboration with various brands and artists, focusing on fashion, art, and lifestyle. We will release a series of special items in a wide range of genres, without being limited to any specific category.

    In this project, Yohji Yamamoto will actively collaborate with other brands and people in a wide range of lifestyle fields, including not only fashion but also art, to develop items, products, and artwork. The "wild" nature of Yohji Yamamoto does not mean that Yohji Yamamoto is (obviously) out of control. It is a polyphonic project that actively invites other companies and people through "collaboration".[2]

    Concept

    Background

    The capsule collection features three shirts that were created by Kié Lee. Just like hers and Yohji Yamamoto's work, they are cut in an androgynous, loose silhouette in a dark palette.[3]

    The three pieces in the collection is a pullover shirt that’s given a slightly off-centred treatment with asymmetric constructions complete with a ’30s-inspired collar;[4] a loose fit T-shirt crafted from a dense and opaque fabric that’s adorned with three buttons;[5] and a unisex t-shirt in a lightweight fabric.[6]

    Inspiration

    Kiés work draws heavy inspiration from the interwar period between 1920-1940's. Which can be seen specifically in the 30's inspired collar on the pullover shirt.

    Themes

    As most Yohji and Kié related work, the garments featuring in the collection are black.

    Reception

    The Reception section should include a general summary of the public reaction to the show and the collection, especially its reception in stores.

    Legacy

    There has currently been four iterations of the Wildside by Yohji Yamamoto collections to date, featuring numerous different collaborations with different creatives. Thus showcasing that it's a growing and lasting project, and an initiative to showcase more creative talent outside of the fashion industry.
