ROSEN is a made-to-order fashion brand founded in 2017 by Gracia Ventus. Based in Shanghai, China.
Background
While brands focus on high end materials, ROSEN is centred around luxurious garments and sculptural silhouettes[1], conversely ROSEN-X is a futuristic interpretation of practical wear[1] and could be considered to fall into Techwear as a fashion category.
History
Ventus decided to create ROSEN in 2017 after previously selling vintage garments from her dorm.[2] The first ever samples of ROSEN was a batch focusing on shirts, creating unisex fits mainly fitting Ventus' own specifications. She mentions that the first fit was "A-line flare with exaggerated high collar and extra long sleeves that end with reinforced cuffs. The back is longer than the front, and it has side splits so that I can easily grab things out of my trousers pockets, but mostly so that I can put my hands in them for extra style points when I walk."[3]
Style
ROSEN
ROSEN is known for its shapes, draping and silhouettes whilst focusing on luxurious fabrics. The customers may request different fabrics and changes to their garment of choice.[1]
ROSEN-X
ROSEN-X is the technical counterpart, which focuses more on urban wear and comfort by incorporating futuristic designs.
The first ROSEN-X collection was introduced quickly after a previous ROSEN collection. It also introduced one of her favourite set of cargos, the "Europa Cargos" which there were four sample iterations of.
ROSEN-X was Ventus' introduction to more synthetic fabrics in order to create what according to her, is "slightly-more-interesting" clothing.[4][5]
Themes
Whilst ROSEN's aesthetic is avant-garde pieces, often in black, and elegant loose fitting. ROSEN-X has a more futuristic motif with synthetic fabrics and "armour-like" functions against the different conditions in urban areas.

Notable Products
The ROSEN-X Aeon Jacket has been one of the brand's top sellers[6] the jacket is a futuristic "cyberpunk" cropped jacket that takes inspiration from the likes of Akira and Ghost in the Shell.[7] The initial design started as a modern military field jacket, before Ventus changed its silhouette significantly with a tapering waist, large shoulders and enormous arms. Plenty of pockets were added. The zippers on the main body were reversed to go from up to down so that the zippered openings could remain very large but could be worn with the zipper lowered. The collar was increased in height because I like the drama and to match movie inspirations. Large cuff straps were used to create adjustable taper with 80’s inspired hook and loop closure for black strips of contrast.[8]
