Dozen (Collection) is Milk of Lime's debut collection and was set for the Spring/Summer 2024 season. The collection was shown at Zeiss Planetarium in Berlin.

Concept

Background

Milk of Lime's full debut collection featured 20 unique looks.

Inspiration

“Dozen” is designed with a fictional character in mind, one that truly embodies the essence of Milk of Lime. This character, referred to as the “winery punk,” exudes elegance while remaining deeply connected to nature.[1]

“The fly is marking a mundane and uninvited companion of our human life. Its sudden appearance evokes a strange sense of familiarity while carrying heavy symbolism for our fleeting existence. It is an animal on the fine line between revulsion and beauty. Portraying the black iridescent body of this seemingly profane insect repels and attracts the eye equally and is forgotten with one incidental gesture of our hand.” is stated on the site.[2]

Themes

With the echoes of "loneliness" from the speakers during the show, the theme of the collection could be interpreted as a form of feeling alone. The colours palette of the collection features a lot of dark tones with the occasional white. Black garments are often synonymous with solitude or being anonymous.

Techniques

Black and earth-tone bomber jackets, sheer lace draping, and bralettes made with materials from a local coffee roastery succeeded the first white look.[3]

Runway Show

Production

The opening look features a white buttoned up slightly frayed dress with thumb holes, almost resembling a shirt and skirt combo.[4] The closing look features a tulle veil hanging down, whilst the model is covering her chest with said veil, and her arm. She also wears a set of white trousers whilst holding a flower bouquet in her right hand.[5]

The Styling sub-section should include a summary of the hair and make-up artists involved in the show, as well as the overall styling concept and its connection to the show concept.

Presentation

The runway presentation featured hidden speakers echoing "loneliness" through the room until a semblance of the moon rose up from the edge of the floor through the "sky" silencing the echo and making way for the models to appear.[15]

Milk of Lime’s debut presentation, titled Dozen, was introduced by an all-white shirt dress with thumbholes, embellished with delicate flowers, a theme, like leather, which continued throughout the twenty looks that encompassed the collection.[16]

The designers did not make a closing appearance. Instead, the opening chant echoed through the venue once more, creating an exciting buzz for what's to come.[17]

Reception

The Reception section should include a general summary of the public reaction to the show and the collection, especially its reception in stores.

Legacy

This was Milk of Lime's debut collection, it paved the way for two more annual collections that were released in 2024, and 2025.
