Deadwood is a fashion brand founded in 2012 by Carl Ollson and Felix von Bahder. Based in Stockholm, Sweden, it is known for its sustainable values, which dates all the way back from 2012, and their upcycled garments.

Background

Deadwood is a Swedish brand that creates garments through upcycled materials, often using vintage and discarded fabrics. With the brand being known for its leather jackets, they solely use leather that would be discarded and tossed away to adhere to the Deadwood's own sustainability policies and core values.[1]

Deadwood has also dabbled in using different leather alternatives with the usage of cactus leather and MycoWorks materials.[2]

History

2010s

Deadwood was established by the duo in 2012, they met whilst working at a jeans shop. Shortly after, they urge to create something that was theirs with their own concept and values started to submerge. They created their own store selling brands and vintage garments, before eventually feeling the need to go further and the idea of starting their own label.

They realised that the one thing that always seemed to sell was the reworked leather jackets, which later became a staple piece in the brand.[3] The store eventually closed after two years, but the same day as they shut down their store, they received a phone call with an order on 300 of their leather jackets.[4][5]

Deadwood also produced their own beer as a collaboration with a brewery in Södermalm, Stockholm, in 2015.[6]

2020s

In 2025, Deadwood teamed up with A Day’s March to create a collaboration capsule collection crafted from deadstock leather and suede.[7]

Style

Deadwood is known for its leather and denim products, using discarded leather whilst being innovative and trying new types of leather, whether it's mushroom based or made out of cactus. The designs are not too far of from being considered avant-garde.

Themes

Discuss the central ideas, narratives, or cultural topics the brand explores across collections (e.g. futurism, nostalgia, urban rebellion).

Motifs

Describe visual elements or symbols repeatedly used by the brand (e.g. skulls, crosses, checkerboards, technical hardware).

Notable Products

Deadwood is known for its leather jackets, with patchwork jackets being made by the brand since its start in 2012 using discarded leather pieces from all around the world. The jacket has become synonymous with the Deadwood brand, which initially got help from an agent in Thailand that helped them gather discarded leather from parts of South East Asia.[8]
